Tony Robinson is to walk across England from west to east coast for a Channel 5 series.
Full Fat Television and GroupM Entertainment will co-produce Tony Robinson’s Coast to Coast (w/t), a 6 x 60-minute series inspired by Alfred Wainwright’s 1973 book A Coast to Coast Walk.
In each episode, Robinson will cover 30 miles of British countryside as he travels through the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the North Yorkshire Moors.
As he travels he will meet the communities who live there and uncover Britain’s religious and industrial past.
Emma Westcott, who commissioned the series, described the series as “a factual hybrid” mixing history and travel.
“Tony’s genuine passion for the subject and gift as a story teller underlines our ambition to broaden the range of our programming and provide a fresh voice to our countryside heritage,” she said.
Robinson added: “I’m not the first to embark on a coast to coast adventure but this is a first for me and I want to do something different. I can’t wait to explore the spectacular scenery, meet the communities who live there and get to know better how this part of the country fits together.”
Full Fat TV founder Colette Foster will executive produce alongside GroupM Entertainment’s Melanie Darlaston.
